First, A Little Background on Novi
This community was first incorporated as a city in 1969 after the approval of a city charter in February.
The township was named Novi because a resident (Dr. J.C. Emery) made the suggestion. Evidently, residents were reportedly looking for a shorter name than Farmington, which was the township is was formed from.
Today, many remnants of this 31.28-square-mile community’s history are still around. Some of these include:
- Historic Township Hall
- Tollgate Farm
- Colonel Samuel White Homestead
- Novi Depot
- Jacob and Rebecca Fuerst Farmstead
